NEW DELHI: Seagate Technology, a leader in storage solutions, will focus on
the consumer electronics market, which is all set for a boom in the next couple
of years. As a part of its strategy, Seagate has launched its Consumer
Electronics Testing and Engineering Center (CETEC) in Colorado in the US. The
objective of the center is to test, integrate and provide analysis facilities
for consumer electronics companies to integrate hard drives into new classes of
consumer electronics devices. As hard drives introduce complexity for computer
electronics devices, the CTEC will provide all help to reduce the complexity of
integrating hard drives with these devices. Till now, Seagate has sold over 1
million drives in the computer electronics market and over 200,000 drives for
personal video recorders.
Seagate has also unveiled its U series 5 disc drives, the fifth generation of
the U Series family of disc drives. Its features include the sound barrier
technology offering up to 40 GB on two platters with 5400-rpm performance. The U
series 5 is the first to support enhanced drive self test, the new
standards-based drive self-test technology developed by Seagate.
