Owing to the increasing demand in Asia-Pacific, especially from China and India, the SEA-ME-WE4 upgrade means more bandwidth availability.

Advanced, developing and emerging markets in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe that engage in localized and globalized trade will benefit from the higher capacity broadband service, that so far has been supported by 2.5 Gbps and 10 Gbps speeds typically available on undersea cables.

Launched in 2005, SEA-ME-WE4 is the fourth project in the SEA-ME-WE series.

SEA-ME-WE4 links Southeast Asia to Europe through the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East. Using DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) technology, the system is used to carry voice, data, Internet and broadband applications.
