School children attend President’s Internet class

BANGALORE: Around 600 strong audience of rural school children who came across from different villages of Karnataka sharing the 300 PCs took Internet lessons from the President APJ Abdul Kalam for an hour. The President was seen showing keen interest in teaching every student about the basic essentials of the Internet.



For the rural students it was altogether a different experience as majority of them were exposed to the Internet for the first time in their lives. The event titled "The Students Internet World-2002" was sponsored by Samsung which launched its PC in India on Monday.



The event was an attempt to give the rural children a chance to access the Internet and in turn be in touch with the world. For some rural students it was indeed an amazing experience as many of them were touching a computer for the first time in their lives.



The President in the best of his charm was enthusiastically giving step-by-step instructions on how to access the Net and approach a particular site. Kalam discussed with the students certain websites, which included a site on the maps of India and about the President of India.



He urged the students to work hard and sweat for a great vision and exhorted them to acquire more and more knowledge to achieve their dream and vision. Kalam informed the students that the Internet has emerged as a powerful tool of information and technology.



At the end of the program, he shared a poem titled "Song of Youth" with the students and urged them to transform their thoughts into action to achieve their vision in life.
