FRANKFURT: Business software group SAP AG said on Wednesday it had won a major order for logistics software from U.S. autos giant Ford and construction equipment maker Caterpillar. SAP declined to comment on the size of the order but industry sources said the contract ranked among SAP's biggest five of the past three years. The order came as SAP has been struggling in a slowdown as its customers cut software spending.

The firm said in a statement that it would develop supply-chain management software for Ford and Caterpillar based on its existing "mySAP" supply chain management and customer relationship management software packages. It said the software would allow dealers to see parts inventories and customer orders. It would also allow the firms to manage warehouses more efficiently.

By 1304 GMT, SAP shares were 1.43 percent lower at 78.36 euros by 1304 GMT, outperforming the blue-chip DAX index which was two percent lower.
