Launching two new models of digital cameras, Sanyo India Private Limited has lined up an array of new products, which are slated to be launched by July.

“We are eyeing the No.3 position in the Indian market in the next three years time. We are planning to launch 10 new models by July 2007,” Keiji Oshima, president Sanyo India said.

In the digital camera market Sony holds the top slot followed by Canon. Sanyo’s target to reach the third slot would mean that it has to overthrow both Kodak and Olympus, who currently share the third spot.

To fuel the growth in digital cameras, the company has already allotted a distributor for the North and the West regions.

Manjunat Prasanna, national product head (digital products) Sanyo BPL Private Limited, said that the company is in talks with two distributors for the South and the East region.

He said that the company is optimistic about the targets and will make its way to third position. He added that the market share of Kodak and Olympus is decreasing which would prove advantageous for Sanyo.

“We are in the process of finalizing the distributor for these two regions within a short time. We are targeting to achieve 10-12 per cent market share in the digital camera segment in India in three years time,” Prasanna said.

The company has also created a roadmap to set up exclusive Brand-Shops in major metros across the country in the next three months. Apart from the brand shops the company is planning to set up demo-centers in four metros in India.

Elaborating on the demo centers, Prasanna said, “This center will offer the customers the touch and use experience of the products before purchasing it. This will also help the customers to look in to the features and the quality of the photographs.”
