Samsung Galaxy Note 7 debacle has surely put a dent into the South Korean company’s image but apparently, Indians still prefer this brand over others.

According to Counterpoint Research, in comparison to Indian brand Micromax, which recorded a 9.9 percent market share, Samsung, logged 22.6 percent of the smartphone market between the months of July and September in 2016.

Last year, Samsung had an overall handset market share of 19 percent in the same quarter. “India is big business, with the country’s smartphone sales eclipsing those in the United States last year for the first time. That makes the populous nation the world’s second largest phone market, behind China. Growth isn’t slowing down either; Q3 was a “record quarter” for smart and feature phone sales,” said Counterpoint Research analyst Karn Chauhan.

Notably, Lenovo was the third biggest smartphone brand in the country in the September quarter, with Xiaomi taking the position of India’s top five for the first time.
