FRANKFURT: Germany’s second largest software maker, Software AG (SAG) will house 50 professionals in its offshore development center in India. The center, based out of Mumbai, is the joint venture between Software AG and iGate Global Solutions. The project is expected to start from October this year and plans expansion as business develops. This marks the entry of the German software major into the country.

The new private limited company, Software AG India, will have start-up equity of 300,000 euros ($340,000), 51 percent from Software AG and 49 percent from iGATE Global Solutions, a subsidiary of US-based iGATE Corporation.

Software AG said in a statement the new firm would develop user applications to complement its main server software business, part of the company's drive to expand its range of products and partners as it fights off persistent takeover rumours.

SAG said that it has chosen iGATE as a partner for its expertise, size and competitive costs. "Especially in the startup phase SAG India can draw on a large pool of iGATE GS's skilled IT labour in India, which will guarantee a fast ramp-up of the new company," the statement said. Its clients include Lufthansa, Sony and BP.
