As part of the licensing agreement STM will use DivX Plus Streaming, Rovi's advanced adaptive streaming format with DivX DRM, as well as Rovi TotalCode, a professional quality video encoding solution. These solutions will initially be deployed to power a new STM service that will offer access to premium video entertainment in over 20,000 Internet cafes in Greater China.

"As a company that already has a track record of supporting digital video services in the region, Rovi was a natural choice to support our efforts to provide digital entertainment access to millions of cafe visitors," said Helfand Mao, EVP, Sales and Operations at STM. "DivX video technologies will not only enable us to securely deliver our entertainment libraries, but more importantly, also help power exceptional viewing quality."

Building upon core DivX video streaming, download, and DRM (digital rights management) technologies, as well as MainConcept professional encoding tools, the DivX Video Service offers components for managing the entire video distribution chain from creation of video and enablement of secure delivery to multi-screen playback across PC, Mobile and CE devices.

These components help video services quickly scale services and offer consumers a high level of consistency, flexibility, and interoperability. The DivX video service includes Rovi's DivX Plus Streaming, enabling a "Blu-ray-like" experience in a streaming environment with support for 1080p high definition, multi-language subtitles and audio tracks, quick start, resume playback across devices, smooth fast-forward/rewind, and future support for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC/H.265).
