Rolta Group to venture into e-governance

MUMBAI: Mumbai based Rolta Group is making inroads in e-governance sector in

a bid to tap the government market.

The e-Business Services of the Rolta group is shouldering the responsibility

of e-governance projects. Speaking to CNS, Rolta eBusiness Services senior vice

president, Jayasinh J Bhonsle, said that Rolta group sees the potential in the

market. He added, "We have done many government projects but e-governance

will be a new area for us where bringing transparency between officials and

citizen is concerned".

Presently the company is developing a site for the government of Maharashtra

wherein the site would keep track of all Member of parliament and Member of

legislative assembly of respective constituencies. The site would disclose all

the works done by MPs and MLAs and the money spent and the money sanctioned for

the development works.

Bhonsle said that the company is carrying out land record management system

project on experimental basis in Aurangabad, wherein all the tehsils of the

district would be connected to the centrally located hub in Aurangabad. The

connectivity would be done through V-SAT. If the project is a success it will be

done all over Maharashtra, said Bhonsle.

The company plans to increase its staff strength from hundred to five

hundred. He agreed that the company would have to invest in updating their

expertise in business intelligence, datamining and other required aspects.

The eBusiness Services branch of Rolta has plans to go to Europe, Middle East

and other continents independently with their e-commerce and e-business

solutions. Bhonsle expects second half of the next year to witness their

expansion plans in Europe. The company hopes for a 25 per cent of revenue from

overseas projects. Bhonsle added, eBusiness Services hopes Rs 40 crore-revenue

generation in the year 2002 from domestic market out of expected Rs 300 crore

revenue from overall market.
