Riverbed appoints David Wu as CTO

BANGALORE, INDIA: Riverbed Technology announced that David Wu has been appointed chief technology officer.

As a member of Riverbed's founding team in 2003, Wu was involved in the initial architecture of Steelhead wide area network (WAN) optimization appliance and was also the innovator behind Granite storage delivery solution.

"David has been at Riverbed since the company's inception and throughout that time he has driven the development of all Riverbed products. Under his guidance, Riverbed has grown from one product line to many, and the company's offerings have expanded to continue to solve tough problems for our customers. As CTO, David will focus on technology innovation that will address the challenges of the new generation of IT," said Jerry Kennelly, chief executive officer for Riverbed.

Wu developed the initial architecture behind the Steelhead appliance and Riverbed Optimization System (RIOS), the software that powers Riverbed WAN optimization solutions. He also was responsible for Whitewater cloud storage appliance that enables customers to seamlessly and securely backup to the cloud, says a release.

In his 10 years with the company, Wu has held several positions, including Vice President, Software Development and Senior Vice President, Research & Development. Wu will also lead more than 800 engineers in the development of new products and drive continued innovation to address the business and IT problems that globally distributed enterprises are grappling with as they transform their data centers.

"Riverbed continues to enable organizations to achieve greater levels of IT efficiency and consolidation, helping customers cut costs, increase productivity and collaboration. I look forward to continuing a very positive relationship with our customers to deliver innovation that meets the demand of evolving enterprises," said Wu.

Before joining the Riverbed founding team, Wu was the director of Engineering at netVmg, acquired by Internap Corporation (INAP). Earlier, Wu served as senior engineering manager at Inktomi Corporation, where he led the streaming media proxy group.

He has seven patents issued and 36 pending patents relating to networking, programming languages, and databases. Wu holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a Master's degree in Computer Science, both from University of California, Berkeley.
