CIOL- Reliance Jio launches 4G mobile phone for Rs 0

The Airtel vs. Reliance Jio speed test war takes another turn. While both the parties have not once changed their stands. Reliance Jio continues to question Ookla’s Speedtest methods. Including their claims that Ookla is not recognised by either TRAI or the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).  They have so far based their arguments on this and concluded that Airtel cannot use the word ‘officially’ in its advertisements.

Ookla too had come out and said that their reports are true and they have derived the said result as per the tests. In a recent development Reliance Jio has issued an official statement where they explain how the test in itself might have been faulty.

They have questioned the methods and the model of conducting the speed test. The spokesperson says,

“The core issue is that the speed test results are attributed to the primary sim even though the sim for which the data speed test is conducted is the secondary sim in the case of dual-sim phones. Therefore, there is no guarantee that the speed which is attributed to Airtel is of the Airtel data network."

In India, more than 90% of 4G phones are dual-sim. While, Airtel’s Chief Brand Officer, Rajiv Mathrani also said Ookla’s findings are based on rigorous and extensive testing across millions of devices and employ the best of data analytics.

Reliance Jio spokesperson adds, "We are surprised that Ookla in its press release has not talked about this issue even though they had acknowledged the blunder to us earlier. Ookla has baldly stated that they stand by their results and has skirted the main issue. We will initiate actions as we deem fit at appropriate forums. The public should not be misled by these false claims based on the Ookla results.”

Airtel’s Chief Brand Officer, Rajiv Mathrani said, “We are rather amused by the allegations being made against our campaign."

Are Reliance Jio allegation just another way to attract attention or do they hold any ground?

Well, we just have to wait and watch, because, this story keeps getting interesting everyday.
