The SIM cards are available in limited quantities and most retail stores are following token system. However, even if end users manage to get their hands on a Reliance Jio SIM card, many are unable to get the cards activated as it is a three-week wait. Hence, to ease the hassle, Reliance will start taking online registration for its free SIM cards and deliver the same to customer’s doorsteps, according to Telecomtalk.info.

Because of the burgeoning demand for Jio SIM card, Reliance may introduce an online portal where interested consumers can sign up to book a SIM card. They will be required to provide certain basic information, the report adds, claiming that once this formality is completed the Reliance Jio SIM card will then be delivered to the applicant's address within 5-7 days.

The report also cited official sources who confirmed that the service has already been tested and ready to be rolled out in metro cities. If such is the case, we can expect the online registration process to follow other cities also.

In the current retails store method, users have to wait in a long queue for a long time before registering for Jio SIM card. They are also required to submit our id proof, address proof, photographs etc at the store, only to collect the Jio SIM card three weeks later. Now, with the simple online process, users can receive the SIM card with just a click.

On the flip side, the online registration process will also help the company to reach its goal of reaching 250 million of the subscriber base.
