PUNE: Reconnex, a player in internal security and data loss prevention space, or extrusion security market, is betting on correlation technology.

This technology will entail building analytic, data mining, OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) on its erstwhile capture, monitor and discover functionalities.

“Correlation between events would be our focus next since we have all the events captured with us. For instance, it would be exciting to trail in litigation, how one event triggers another set of multiple events. This can be done by tracing correlation between various events,” said Anand A Kekre, country manager, Reconnex India Private Ltd.

The new technology can be a separate product or part of existing infrastructure. It would not, however, be a single release and will be doled out in phases. Every new release from the company would have some flavor of correlation technology.

Reconnex would also be launching a new version of its 6.0 End Point Agent in the next quarter. End Point 6.0, that covers data leakage prevention technology from potential employee leakage points like mobile devices and removable media was rolled out in April this year. New releases of iGuard, a security appliance and iSight would be aligned in the next roll-outs. The next major release will be announced in a few months, told Kekre. Currently, Reconnex covers all content protocols, including a customer’s own protocols that it tackles through reverse engineering. It has also attacked Instant Messaging and P2P sharing as possible internal security breach taps.

“We have covered proprietary protocols like AOL, Google Chat while we are analyzing and finding out P2P protocols too,” he added.

VCs like Norwest Venture Partners and Outlook Ventures have so far funded the company. It has mopped up $37 million in three rounds of funding so far. “We won’t go for another round of funding, we will be on our won. We are trying to work out various models of partnerships and integration, for instance OEM relationships with large companies.”

Given the serial entrepreneurial record of its founder, possibilities are not absent for a major consolidation move in an industry, which has already seen acquisitions like Port Authority by Websense and Tablus by EMC. But Kekre’s answer to that is obvious, “Yes and No. We are not actively looking for a deal but are open to talks with a company where synergies in technology and culture are present. If we get a good deal, why not.”

The most interesting table talk would be that of convergence between players like Reconnex, that specialise in extrusion detection and players in the intrusion security space.

Most security firms are focused external threat security like firewalls and gateways. Reconnex targets internal security breaches. Its competition comprises of vendors like Vericept Corp., Tablus Inc., and Vontu.
