A statement from Rambus said that 12 employees from Global Lighting Technologies are expected to join Rambus following the acquisition, including Jeff Parker, co-founder and former CEO of Global Lighting Technologies. Jeff Parker is to head the Rambus Lighting Technology division.

Chris Pickett, former president of the licensing division of Global Lighting Technologies (headquartered in Brecksville, Ohio, the United States) also will join Rambus, as senior licensing executive for the Rambus Lighting Technology division.

According to Rambus Incorporated, the 84 patents it will buy – including the MicroLens light distribution technology – are expected to broaden the technology offerings of Rambus for consumer electronics and computing.

Rambus said the new innovations will enable the company to make ultra-thin and cost-effective form-factor LCD displays, which are crucial for new applications like advanced LED-based general lighting solutions.

The statement from Rambus added that Global Lighting Technologies will continue to produce display backlighting devices and also will become a Rambus licensee for the newly bought technology and patents.
