CHENNAI: Quantum Corporation, a company dealing in the design and service of
automated tape libraries as well as in the workgroup network attached storage
(NAS) market, is introducing Guardian 14000 NAS server (12 drives) with 1.4 TB
capacity. Quantum, which already has a market share of 70 per cent in the NAS
entry/workgroup level, intends to migrate into the mid-range level with the
launch of Guardian server priced under $ 25,000.
"The product has been named Guardian, since it protects your
investment," says Quantum country manager, (India) Sunny John. "With
Guardian we want to enter the high end level and touch the major players like
NetApps, EMC, IBM, Compaq. We would be able to give very good competition and
steal the market from them with our competitive prices and added features,"
added John. Compatible with Windows, UNIX, Linux and Macintosh environment, the
Guardian 14000 deploys quick and easy installment with no network or application
downtime. To maximize system and data availability, the Guardian 14000 server
employs RAID 5, redundant, hot-swappable hardware components and dual Gigabit
Ethernet ports. Data protection is addressed through a number of features,
including Snapshot technology, support for backup agents and the inclusion of
PowerQuest DataKeeper software for easy, automatic backup of Windows desktops
and laptops. Quantum which has the policy of providing three years warranty on
its products will be giving one year warranty in India for its products.
Recently Quantum Corporation underwent a major reshuffle where it formed a new
group called Storage Solution Group by merging Quantum ATL and the Snap
division. Initially the company had three wings - Quantum DLT, Quantum ATL and
Snap.
