If you’re looking for an MFD, which is compact in size and suits your
pocket, then here’s a sleek option from Lexmark. It’s a
printer-scanner-copier that can also do faxing, but only by using the fax modem
of your computer. The MFD has only four buttons for operation. While this
enhances its ease of use, it sacrifices on standalone operation. It relies
heavily on the software that comes with it for all its operations. For eg to
take a copy, you’ll have to turn on the system and do it from the software.
The MFD’s printer can print at a resolution of 4800X1200 dpi. It gave us a
speed of 5 ppm for monochrome prints, and the quality of black text was also
decent. In color printing, it took 27 mins to print a full-page color graphic on
photo paper in the best mode. The wait was worth it, as the print quality was
good. In normal mode, it took only 4 mins and 10 secs to print the same graphic
on photo paper. Though the print quality wasn’t great, it was good considering
the enormous reduction in time.
The MFD’s copying function could copy at about 12 ppm for mono and 5 ppm
for color. The scanner supports a maximum optical resolution of 600X1200, which
is lower than its competition, the HP PSC-1210, which supports 600X2400. In
performance, the Lexmark 1150 took just 23 secs to scan a full-page color
document and 21 secs to scan a text document.
The MFD has drivers for both Windows and Mac, and can also do OCR. Overall, a
good buy for its price.
