Commenting on his foundation's recent decision to launch about 1,300 schools covering all districts across the country, he said, "Opening these schools will give good demonstration centres to the country." As per current plans, every district might get two demonstration schools.

According to the foundation's chief executive officer Dileep Ranjekar, the idea is to set up these institutions in under-served localities for them to serve as examples for other public and private schools to follow.

The entire project is expected to take about 14 years, out of which in the next one-and-a-half as many as seven would be launched in four states, including Karnataka and Rajasthan.

The schools would give preference to both theoretical and practical classes, even as they aim at resolving some major issues plaguing the current education system. Overall development of children is the core idea behind the concept.

About this mission, Premji has said that quality education is fundamental for India to evolve into a developed nation.

In his opinion, the final crucible of learning is the classroom.
