The application, which gave users pickup lines and invites men to brag about their conquests, was facing harsh criticism ever since the launch, which forced Pepsico to apologize.

Pepsi's 'AMP Up Before You Score' iPhone application categorises women into 24 types and then uses the Apple smartphone's Internet capabilities to link users to information about them and what they like, said The Australian.

Following the controversy the soft drinks major fired off an apology on popular microblogging service Twitter.

“Our app tried 2 show the humorous lengths guys go2 get women,” the message read. “We apologise if it's in bad taste and appreciate ur feedback.”

However, despite the apology, the application has not been withdrawn, say reports.
