PentaMedia in JV with US firm

BANGALORE: PentaMedia Graphics Ltd. has entered into a 50:50 joint venture

agreement with US-based 3dMaxMedia, to create high-end digital entertainment

content using cutting-edge tools for internet, cinema and TV media. The company

will be based in India and the US and its first project will be bringing two

famous Indian movie stars of yesteryears Raj Kapoor and MGR alive through

digital animation and photo-realistic 3D graphics.

3dMaxMedia president and chief executive officer Srini Vasan said that, for

the first time there is such a concept of combining legendary virtual artistes

with famous live artistes for a duration of 90 minutes. The movie will be in

Hindi and Tamil and a family entertainer of action and fun. The English version

of the film will be released through the Internet. The film is currently in the

pre-production stage and would be directed and scripted by entertainment

veterans of international repute. He said it was a technical challenge and can

be termed digital interactive cinema where the users can make choices about the

backgrounds or the type of endings.

Hewlett-Packard will be providing the technology platform and the film would

be ready in nine months with the help of a 100- member animation team. The

path-breaking digital technology to be created by the JV will enable viewers to

watch the movies in theatres as well as over the broadband Internet. The movie

production will be backed by relevant experts from Hollywood and professors from

MIT and Stanford University.
