NEW DELHI: In the latest security bulletin Microsoft has released patches for critical vulnerabilities in its Internet Explorer browser and Windows 2000 operating system.

The bulletin labeled MS050-054, has a severity rating 'critical' and warns all Windows operating system users to patch their systems at the earliest.

If left-unpatched, attackers can remotely take control of the compromised machine and create havoc, warns Microsoft in the security bulletin. IE 6.0 running on Windows XP SP2 is under as much risk as older versions of IE like 5.0 and 5.5.

On getting control of the compromised machine the attacker could install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights, says the official MS website.
