Our demand for JPC on 2G scam still stands: BJP

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Terming the arrest of former communications minister A. Raja "too little too late", the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday said its demand for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) into the 2G spectrum allocation scam still stands.

"Well, the spectrum allocation to the favourites of the minister and understated value took place in 2007-08. We are now in 2011 and you obviously have a situation more than two years...this government did nothing despite the issue raised by the media and opposition. Why was prime minister in the denial mode all this time?" BJP leader Arun Jaitley said, speaking to reporters here.

He said the government covered up the scam for two-three years, and even as late as a fortnight ago Raja's successor Kapil Sibal was trying to market a theory that no loss took place.

"Any action of this government will not arouse any element of confidence. Opposition is not satisfied and we will continue with our demand of JPC on 2G spectrum," he said.

He said there are several questions that need to be answered in 2G spectrum.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Wednesday arrested Raja and two of his aides R.K. Chandolia and Siddharth Behura in connection with the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
