The Orbeos panel, Osram Opto Semiconductors said in a statement, is energy-efficient in comparison with incandescent bulbs or halogen lamps. It is also suited to applications in offices, hotels, caterings, private homes, shops, and architecture.

Having a round lamp surface of 80-mm in diameter, 2.1-mm in thickness and weighing 24 grams, the Orbeos OLED panel has an efficiency of 25-lumens per watt – that is, exceeding the efficiency of a halogen lamp.

According to Osram, the “warm, white-color temperature” of the Orbeos OLED panel matches the warm light of the incandescent lamp.

The other features of the Orbeos OLED panel are that it can be switched on and switched off without delay, is continuously dimmable, and does not emits ultraviolet radiation or infrared radiation.

The brightness level of Orbeos is typically 1,000 candelas per square metre, and it uses a power input of less than 1 watt. Orbeos, the company claims, has a lifespan of around 5,000 hours.

Osram says that the fast-paced advance of OLEDs in general-lighting is mainly based on the Opal (Organic Phosphorescent Lamps for Applications in the Lighting Market). The Opal is funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
