NEW DELHI: Oracle has announced sweeping expansion plans for its Indian
subsidiary after a meeting held between an Indian delegation headed by Minister
of Information Technology Mr. Pramod Mahajan and top level executives from
Oracle Corp. at the company’s Redwood Shores headquarters in the US.
As part of its plans, Oracle will begin constructing its Software Development
Center in Bangalore, India. Oracle intends to invest $14.5 million in this
project. The company already has two software development centers in India–one
in Bangalore and the other in Hyderabad. The new facility is expected to help
consolidate all the offices of Oracle India in Bangalore. The first phase of
Oracle’s expansion is scheduled to be complete by the end of the first half of
2000.
During the Minister’s visit, he acknowledged the contributions made by
Oracle India to the growth of the software industry in the country. He added
that Oracle India was among the first multinational companies to invest in
permanent infrastructure facilities in India.
Speaking on the subject, Oracle Corp’s chief financial officer Jeff Henley
said, "India is the only country outside the US where we are continuously
expanding developer headcount. This additional investment in the country will
provide an impetus to industry growth in Bangalore and in India."
