HONG KONG: Oracle Corp, the world's second-biggest software maker, said on
Monday it will open a development center in the southern Chinese city of
Shenzhen that will target the China market.
California-based Oracle, which makes high-end software for enterprise users,
said the facility will open by May and employ up to 100 people in its first six
months of operation.
Unlike Oracle's development center in India, which employs 2,000 people
engaged in "generic" research and development, the company's Shenzhen
operation will focus on serving the burgeoning Chinese market, said Derek
Williams, executive vice president for Oracle's Asia-Pacific division.
Oracle has about 350 staff in China.
