NEW YORK: Aimed at small and medium-sized businesses, Dell, the No. 2
personal computer maker will begin selling database software from Oracle Corp.
that has been pre-loaded onto its computer servers.
The companies jointly said that they will also work together more closely in
China, particularly on the Linux operating system and grid computing, in which
multiple computers work together to boost computing power.
Dell will also resell Oracle licenses in China, an extension of an earlier
reseller agreement.
Dell and Oracle first signed a deal about a year ago under which they said
they would work more closely together. Since then, informed Dell Chairman
Michael Dell that the number of Oracle installations has grown to 30,000 from
about 15,000.
The companies said that the software and computer server combinations start
at $4,108.
