Almost 29% of Indians share their ATM or Debit Card pin with close family members, 4% share it with their domestic and office staff, as per LocalCircles survey.

Digital payment systems has seen a rapid growth over the last three years, this led to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) actively govern online transactions. RBI has also come out with mandates which limits debit and credit card transactions to curb data breach.

Users are paying a huge price in return for an “easy” storage practice.

11% of the citizens store their ATM, bank account, email, and other online account passwords in their contact list, the survey said. These information are exposed when users share access to various apps. It can be easily misused by the app, hackers, and even your contacts.

Any device which uses the internet is easily hackable and no matter how strong is the password.

Cloud-based storage is one of the most effective way to store your data on-the-go but it comes with its own set of problems. The same issue arises when you share and store the data using an internet connection.

Hybrid cloud-based storage options can be used because it has the lowest average total cost of a data breach, compared to public, private and on premise cloud models. Data breaches in hybrid cloud environments cost an average of $3.61 million, $1.19 million less than public cloud breaches, or a difference of 28.3%, as per IBM securities report.

The most effective way to store personal data is to use USB flash drives and external hard disks. However, the trade-off is two extra minutes to secure your data and it is worth it.
