The iCargo solution went live prior to the commencement of the start-up airlines' maiden flight. It is expected that with the implementation of a new generation IT solution, Olympic Air will be able to enhance its cargo volumes and revenue and optimize operational costs whilst improving customer service and efficiency.

The Greek airline has one of the youngest fleets in Southeastern Europe, comprising 32 aircraft and operates services to 37 domestic and 32 international destinations.

According to an IBS official, iCargo is increasingly being viewed by several global airlines as a viable substitute to the expensive legacy systems that are currently being used.

Over 20 leading cargo carriers, including All Nippon Airways, Austrian Airlines, Kingfisher Airlines, Nippon Cargo Airways, Qantas Freight, Kingfisher Airlines, S7 Cargo, SpiceJet, have deployed the solution offered by IBS.

It has been pointed out that Olympic Airlines opted for the Software as a Service (SaaS) mode of usage where the solution will be hosted from IBS’ data centre in Ashburn, the US.

Airlines world over are increasingly opting for SaaS or hosted models of IT solutions which works on a ‘pay as you use’ basis wherein they are spared of large upfront costs for using the software.

Akshay Shrivastava, Senior Vice President and Global Head of IBS’ Cargo Line of Business, said: “The new deployment is very significant in that Olympic Air needed the entire implementation process to be completed within a period of one month to meet their business time lines.”

Added Theodore Koronis, Cargo Manager Olympic Air: The most important fact is that apart from gaining the tools to launch our operations we have gained a very significant partner for many years to come. We are looking forward to a very prosperous cooperation with them.”
