Asia is seen as a very important market place for Numonyx, and it isn't just the geography but also potential for growth that drives the ambitious plan. China and Taiwan are the fastest growing and most dynamic markets as of now.

According to the company, the new move is part of its plan to extend the availability of its products and technologies to Asia's growing embedded and wireless markets especially in the digital consumer, communications and hand-held segments.

The company, a leading flash memory maker, has picked as authorized distributors reliable firms of the likes of Edom Technology, Synnex Technology, World Peace Industrial Group (WPI), WT Microelectronics, Dragon Technology and Tomen Electronics for Asia.

The flash maker will now work closely with its distributors on a channel marketing program that will include training and initiatives designed to deliver the right combinations of NOR, NAND, RAM. It may also include PCM technologies at a later stage, it is expected.

It has been pointed out that the embedded non-volatile memory market has touched US$5.8 billion globally during year 2008. Fifty per cent of this had flowed in from Asia. Meanwhile, the Asia-Pacific wireless market accounted for around 37 per cent of the total wireless handset unit TAM in 2008.
