In a fresh study titled "Web Scale IT - Global Market Drivers, Opportunities, Trends, and Forecasts, 2016-2022." Infoholic Research forecasts that Web Scale IT is set to change the environment of datacenters and will become a necessity for large enterprises.

"Web Scale IT is a niche market offering a lot of opportunities for datacenter players and empowering their decision flexibility. Software providers like IBM, Cisco, and Microsoft will invest heavily in Web Scale in the next four to five years," said Preeti Wadhwani, Senior Research Analyst at Infoholic Research.

Not very long back, a Gartner report too stamped Web-Scale IT as a hot and hard-to-ignore technology trend brimming with the chances of a significant effect on companies by 2017.

The trend has travelled fast to enterprises (looking at ways of cutting IT hegemony and rigidity) from large scale could service firms such as Google, Amazon, Netfilx, Facebook where IT was reinvented with this approach that was enabling them to get high levels of agility and scalability by using new processes and architectures. Soon it morphed into an architectural approach found operating in 50 per cent of global enterprises, up from less than 10 percent in 2013, according to Gartner.

It has impacted Data centers majorly with a new spin at design from an industrial engineering perspective that looks for every opportunity to reduce cost and waste and squeezing the most out of in-house design of key hardware components such as servers, storage and networks. This is accelerated well when Web-oriented architectures allow developers to build flexible and resilient systems that recover from failure more quickly, as Gartner had noted.

The research firm had also predicted that by 2020, 25 per cent of global enterprise CIOs will have had previous involvement in corporate Web-scale IT initiatives, up from less than five per cent in 2013. In fact, Web-Scale IT came up as a requirement to keep pace with digital innovation and competitive threats and as a hot trend way back in Gartner's top 10 strategic technology trends for 2015.

Analysts align in their estimate that Web Scale IT will have a huge impact on operational investment with an increase in workload reliability. This approach not only allows an organization to customize its own architecture and design according to the changing demands but also gain in scalability of stored data over servers, less investment in hardware and accessibility to large amounts of data will continue to drive the market revenue.

As Tariq Shaik from Research Operations of Infoholic Research adds. "The combination of automation, analytics, healing system and software defined has made enterprises more agile and adaptable to infrastructures required to capitalize on new business opportunities. IT & Telecom and Media & Entertainment are the two key industries in the race of efficient utilization of Web Scale IT and are expected to be more profitable in the near future," said .

The new study points out that a major share of Web Scale IT revenue comes from Telecom & IT (21.5 per cent), followed by Media & Entertainment (18.0 per cent) and Retail (9.8 per cent).

Slicing this space by solutions, it is observed that a major share of Web Scale IT revenue comes from Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC), followed by healing software and analytics. The growth in the solutions market has led to the overall growth of Web Scale IT market with the healing software market predicted to reach $139.8 million by 2022, at a CAGR of 22 per cent.
