Now watch live cricket in office

BANGALORE, INDIA: Neo Sports Broadcast Private Limited has launched its Video on demand and Live streaming service targeting office goers.

To begin with, Neo Sports will stream the India vs Australia series starting from 29 September. Zaheer Khan and Robin Uthappa were present at the launch.

Shashi Kalathil, chief executive, New Sports, said that the way cricket is viewed by the fans in office is different from the way cricket is viewed at home.

“We have introduced what is known as lean forward viewing –that is sitting in front of the computer screens. We stream live bits and snippets of events, highlights, and cricket fans can keep in touch with the cricket every half an hour on the computer screen,” he said.

“We bring visions encapsulated in office environment. In office, an employee is not watching cricket for the entire seven hours, but wants to be connected with the match. This live streaming connects the cricket fans especially the office goers with the match, where they can watch live match and replay it when ever they want,” Kalathil added.

On its potential in the Indian market, he said that currently there are 22 million office computers connected to the Internet in India and it will go up 100 million computers by 2011.

The consumers can avail of this service by subscribing to various packages of their choice on a per event basis at Rs five, highlights every half an hour at Rs 30, day pass at Rs 50 and series pass (seven ODIs and one twenty20) at Rs 150. The consumer can also avail of an All Access Live streaming service at Rs 100 per month, which will entitle him to all the other services also.

Kalathil informed that Neo Sports have tied-up with California-based Willow TV for the technology and expertise. Willo TV has its office in Bangalore. “We have invested couple of crore for this website and we expect revenues of Rs five crore by end of this India –Australia series.”

Talking about its acceptance in the corporate where YouTube and other sites being banned, he said, “This initiative has been taken for the first time in India and we should see how people react. We are planning to institutionalize it. We have spoken to couple of corporates, who are interested to buy a few connections.”

“In office you are not watching cricket, but will be connected to the cricket. Eventually we are also looking at introducing mobile SMS services.”

Addressing a query on the bandwidth needed for streaming, he said that bandwidth requirement is very less. This can be even streamed using a CDMA data card.
