Current SSO solutions in the market ease password proliferation by minimizing the number of times an individual needs to enter his or her credentials. However, for an organization to gain from SSO, it is a must for IT departments to undertake a complex and time-consuming integration of applications.

"Difficult-to-integrate applications add time to implementations, and products that require custom coding that's external to the ESSO product's native automation or scripting environment can add significant implementation time and costs. A few applications can't be integrated at all,” said Gregg Kreizman, analyst, Gartner.

He continued, “More Java applications are making their way into enterprises, and some vendors' products have difficulty recognizing sign-on and password change prompts when the interface provides nothing but graphical content for the ESSO product to analyze.”
