Nokia launches 'Just Tap' NFC Symbian Belle phones

BANGALORE, INDIA: "The smartphone market in India has rapidly evolved and is at a very interesting stage," said T S Sridhar, regional general manager - south, Nokia after unveiling three smartphones Nokia 700, Nokia 701 and Nokia 600.

Powered by Symbian Belle operating system, the latest smartphone from Nokia comes with 'Just Tap' Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, a wireless connectivity technology that enables simple and secure communication between compatible devices.

"Consumers realize the importance of form and shape of a device packed with innovative technology and look for the same in all smartphones. We believe our latest range of smartphones powered by Symbian Belle, with path-breaking technology in the form of 'Just Tap' NFC, will push the boundaries for future devices in this segment," added Sridar.

He further added that, "The support and updates for Symbian based phones will be available till 2016 from Nokia."

Nokia also unveiled an app, which controls an 'All Terrain Vehicle' using the Nokia 701 powered by Symbian Belle, developed by Divum, a Bangalore based developer firm.

"The App running on the Symbian Belle device allows users to steer the vehicle through WiFi and lets them control the drive from anywhere on planet Earth," said Sunil Kumar, COO, Divum Corporate Services (P) Ltd.

He further added that, the camera fitted on the vehicle streams live video back to the Nokia device, which enables users to steer and maneuver the vehicle by simply tilting the device using the motion sensing technology.

"Nokia is fully committed to driving the technology forward in India by creating an open ecosystem and fully interoperable environment between developers, software and service providers, and device manufacturers," added Sridhar.

The Nokia 600 is priced at Rs. 12,999 (MRP), the Nokia 700 at Rs. 18,099 (MRP) and the Nokia 701 at (18,999) and is available across the country.
