HELSINKI, FINLAND: Handset major Nokia plans to hire dozens of temporary workers at its Finnish mobile phone plant in Salo to help out in production during the busy fourth quarter.

In February, Nokia said it would cut nearly 300 or 13 per cent of the staff as part of a revamp of the Salo plant, its sole remaining production site in Finland. After announcing a strong Q3 financial results, Nokia had said it would cut up to 1,800 jobs.

"Outside workforce is hired due to seasonality," Nokia spokesman Tapani Kaskinen said. "Typically the fourth quarter is a busy season due to Christmas sales."
