NITA, Confed-ITA embrace Nilgiris

CHENNAI, INDIA: On receiving an appeal from Nilgiris IT Association’s (NITA) president, Terrance Rajesh, to associations under Confed-ITA and its members, for donation, many associations in Tamil Nadu have come forward to render a helping hand. NITA would be handing over the money thus collected to the District Collector of Nilgiris.

The devastation has left 43 people dead and 1,500 people homeless. The road from Ooty to Mettupalayam is badly damaged and it is estimated that it will take over three months to repair. Most of the homeless are being sheltered in camps. The requirement in the region seems to be very high and the government is taking all possible steps to support them.

NITA has sponsored lunch and has been distributing food items to people at the camp.

Tirupur IT Association (TITA) has collected more than Rs 10,000 and is planning to keep collecting donations for one more week from its members. Ravichandran, TITA President said, “I have requested all our members to donate liberally. Few of our customers also have come forward to help.”

Erode IT Dealers Association (EDITA) is also planning to send 100 blankets in a day or two to Nilgiris.

Confed-ITA has got approval from its EC members to donate Rs 40,000. PN Prasad, President of Confed-ITA, said, “We are gathering information to know the actual need of people there and will help accordingly, either as money or materials. I have sent an appeal to the associations across India to come forward to help people of Nilgiri region during this tough time.”

Many associations across Tamil Nadu, including Vellore IT Dealers Association, Computer and Media Society (CAMS), are in discussion with its members to do their part in this hour of need. Some associations have started collecting donations from their members, which will be routed through Confed-ITA to Nilgiris.
