NEW DELHI: NIIT has initiated a new exercise in branding its software services as NIIT Technologies so as to give its software business a distinctive identity. Although such an initiative has been brewing in the burners for quite a while, the decision to launch it now was triggered by the fact that over the last fiscal software revenues exceeded the revenue from its training and education business. However, NIIT ruled out the possibilities of the software division being hived off as a separate company in the near future.

Although officials declined to comment on the projected revenue mix, the general feeling is that software revenues would continue to dominate the company's earnings. The new brand logo, which is a combination of blue and orange, has been chosen with care to be able to leverage on the goodwill and brand salience that the company already enjoys amongst its client base. While blue has been chosen to represent stability, continuity and reliability, orange represents vibrancy, contemporary and distinctiveness.

The new logo is accompanied by the byline, "Trust us to find the way." This is a communication to its old and new clients that it will execute its software commitments with the same zeal and passion as it has demonstrated over the years, the company said. Arvind Thakur, Director & President, NIIT Technologies said that the company expects to roll out its campaign during this quarter. The campaign will include advertisements in the print media, mailers, etc. The software division currently employs 1815 employees and is focussed on the three verticals of retail, transport and finance.

Speaking on the occasion, NIIT Chairman Rajendra S Pawar said, "NIIT Technologies' branding exercise is in keeping with our desire to aggressively address the vast opportunities that exist to establish ourselves as a scale player in the IT services space."

Kiran Karnik, President, Nasscom present on the occasion said that it was important for Indian IT companies to concentrate on building its brand and marketing activities. He urged Indian IT services companies to position as high end value-added service providers and move away from the bracket of being a low-cost destination for outsourcing IT services.
