In line with the Singapore Government's plans to develop

the nation into an IT hub, the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) has launched iBook - a

computerized sports facilities reservation system that provides one-stop, 24 hour service

for inquiries, booking and payment for the use of SSC's sports facilities. NIIT, software

and training company, has bagged the order to design, develop and implement iBook, the

online system for booking of 22 SSC sports facilities.

With iBook, inquiries, booking and payment of local sports

facil-ities can be made via the Internet with the use of NETS CashCard as the mode of

payment. Inquiries and bookings can also be made in person or by telephone. Customers can

now gain instantaneous access to the real-time booking status from across all centres. SSC

is planning to allow for credit card payments as the next enhancement to the system.

The system developed by NIIT is integrated with Oracle

Finan-cials. It has been developed using Java, Java script and HTML on Oracle Application

Server 4.0. Data is being stored on the same Oracle 8.0 database as the client-server

Sports Facilities Reser-vation System (SFRS) launched in April 1999.
