The exclusive deal of YRF with The Walt Disney Studios is news. What were the key traits of each party that did the matchmaking?

This is one-of-its-kind alliance in India for Disney. Yash Raj Films has its forte in content and story-telling, while Disney brings its technical expertise in the animation domain and QC (Quality control) traits to the table. We will jointly produce a series of animated feature films with Indian content for the Indian market. The alliance will kick off with a computer-animated movie titled 'Roadside Romeo', with voice-overs by Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Jaaved Jaaferi. It is slated for release in the summer of 2008.

Can you share something specific on the alliance with Visual Computing Labs (VCL)?

Tata Elxsi VCL is the studio (based in India) where the entire animation development is being done for our first animation film titled Roadside Romeo. The film will be produced by Aditya Chopra and, written and directed by Jugal Hansraj. We will utilize state-of-the-art computer animation technology done entirely in India.

You have also launched your own Digital Rights Management (DRM) platform with Microsoft. What is the strategy behind this?

Through this platform, select song videos from YRF catalogue titles will be available for downloads in a digital format through our website www.yashrajfilms.com. Our site already offers audio songs for download in a digital format. It will be a secure delivery of digital content over the web made possible through Microsoft's Windows DRM technology. YRF is also in the process of evaluating Microsoft Silverlight for its Website for providing rich media interactive features in the future.

Would you scale this up as a revenue model?

To start with, we have priced each song video at $1.99 per download with discount packages for three and six videos. As of now, we have a small test inventory of 20 song videos that will be extended as per the response. We are just testing the waters now, but as the demand grows, we will scale up our offerings and may include 'behind-the-scenes' shots, hit scenes, etc to the video content buffet.
