AMC yes is a big problem if there is no ROI, Customizations to ERP's is a lot of time and work, which can be done by most companies, However the willingness of staff to do these customizations is limited. There have been ERP vendors who have recently even called their client incompetent, Not a very wise thing to do, oh yes there was a lawsuit and the company lost a whopping $61 million. As a CIO one would want an ERP customized as per the needs of the organization and a good ROI and thorough training for staff but of course, as an ERP vendor/maker/developer it takes years to make a basic ERP and then customizations could involve a lot more work and costs which most of the times is a hinderence and if the cost is paid for then the work is time consuming. ERP's today are a dime a dozen, every second IITan looks at making an ERP and starting a business. It is easy to cut copy paste. The real work is the customization which is an effort and time consuming, most people prefer not doing. In these cases from personal experience I believe an open ERP is the best, where headers etc can be changed to suit the terminology of the business/organization/process, In this case customizations can be done one self before implementing the ERP for the entire staff. The main problem arises in a rigid ERP where terminology cannot be changed and customizations are required. There are many open source ERP'S, However my personal vote goes to Deskera.com from Krawler. Not because its the only one I have seen, Its because I have seen many others which are a lot less intuitive and a lot more expensive, did i forget a lot more rigid. Not to mention its the worlds only integrated solution. Accounting/human resources/projects/leaves/customers/sales etc. everything is interlinked. In most cases the pain area is using modules of different providers to suit a particular business process. Its mainly due to exorbitant costs, Deskera is the most flexibly priced integrated solution. Well the main reason I really like it is because I know the venture capitalist supporting the company is big and one of a kind plus DELOITTE Doesn't award any company the fastest 50 in India and the fastest 500 in the world. try it. 3 users are free anyway. www.Deskera.com

very correct statement. We can talk ERP, like that like this and all, but reality, it requires lot of discussions, developments and coordination to implement. After implementation, we will see only ERP is implemented to suite our scheme of works. It doent give anything extra. To get extra from ERP we had to again discuss, develop, etc

This is very true. For an enterprise grade, multi-vertical ERP thats designed with India in mind take a look at Reckoner ERP from Ascomp Technologies (ascomp.com)
