Vyapin ties up with US company for Web technology

CHENNAI: Chennai-based Vyapin Software Systems, a software development and IT-enabled data management services company, has entered into a strategic alliance with the US-based INDUSA Global Services. Under the alliance, Vyapin will undertake offshore development projects in the areas of Web technology and programming for INDUSA.

INDUSA and Vyapin Software have plans to line up offshore projects worth over US $1 million. "We are recruiting 40 professionals this year to meet these requirements," said S. Rajagopal, Executive Director, Vyapin Software Systems. In 2001, INDUSA is expected to register a turnover of US $10 million, of which "Vyapin will contribute at least 15-20 per cent," he added.

INDUSA is involved in client-site consulting and offshore software development services training. The company has established an Information Technology Center at Jamaica, as well as at the Caribbean Institute of Technology. "INDUSA was primarily looking for experts from India to fill up the skill set requirements at Jamaica, as well as identify an offshore development facility to execute their projects," said Rajagopal.

Vyapin is also training and recruiting professionals for INDUSA. It has already sent 12 people from India to Jamaica to be absorbed by INDUSA. "We hope to recruit 100 professionals for INDUSA by the end of 2000," said Rajagopal. The company expects a revenue of Rs 1.4 crore at the end of March 2000. "Our alliance with INDUSA would probably account for around 10 percent of this turnover," added he.

digital-X launches series of products; major plans for Indian market

CHENNAI: The US based digital-X Networks, a system level designing and consulting service provider, has launched a series of networking products in the country. The products include 100



Mbps hubs, Internet servers, single-mode media converters, fiber cards, 10/100 Mbps



non-locking switches etc. The company, which entered Indian market in mid-1999, has so far launched 73 products here.

Explaining the company’s decision to market its products, Sanjay A Nayak, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, digital-X Networks Pvt Ltd, said, "We provide design solutions for products of companies like HP, Cisco, Digicom, IDC Inc etc, and we felt that the prices of networking products sold in India, as well as in other countries, are too high. Since design cost influences much of the price of any product and because of our expertise in that area, we decided to manufacture our own products and offer it at a lesser price."

The company whose Asia Pacific region headquarters located in Bangalore has introduced its product on a trial basis in India. Depending on how they are received in India, these in turn will be marketed the world over. At present, the company has business partners in the Middle East countries barring Dubai, where the company is in the process of negotiation.

Besides, lifetime warranty and total service support for all the products sold, the company



will provide web-based value-added services also to the customers. "Soon, models of e-commerce will be added in the service list," he said. The company is negotiating with major ISPs for bundling its proxy server-Nova Proxy-with Internet accounts. Also, it has tied up with Nest Systems in Bangalore for bundling proxy servers with the PCs of Nest Systems. In a couple of weeks, the company plans to launch Internet gateway hubs and ISDN routers in the market.





 



Wipro wins two Golden Peacock Awards

BANGALORE: Both Wipro Infotech and its chief Azim Premji will receive the 1999 Golden Peacock Awards. While the company gets the Golden Peacock National Quality Award for Outstanding Quality in Computer Manufacturing, Premji will receive the Golden Peacock Business Leadership Award for his Vision, Foresight, Outstanding Leadership, Extraordinary Achievements and Determination.

The Golden Peacock Awards are administered by an independent Golden Peacock Innovation Products/Service Award Council headed by Dr. (Mrs) Najma Heptulla, Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha, who is also Chairperson of Institute of Directors. The Awards this year will be presented during the inauguration of the World Congress on Total Quality organized by the Institute of Directors, where 1200 Quality Professionals from 38 countries will attend. The evaluation is based on the approach, deployment and results of the following parameters: Organizational Leadership, Strategic Quality Planning, Human Resource Utilization, Product Quality and Service, and Customer Satisfaction.

Recognizing the need for leadership through Quality, Wipro launched the Six Sigma Quality initiative the power of which has been captured by winning the Golden Peacock Quality Award for the manufacturing division of Wipro Infotech. Wipro has achieved a saving of Rs 46 million from its Six Sigma Quality initiatives alone in the half year of 1999-2000.
