New version of WhatsApp available for Android users

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Popular free messaging and file sharing application WhatsApp has released its new version for Android users. The new design complies with the Holo design language, that Google introduced with Android 3.0.

The new version offers better looking fonts, bigger image previews in chat windows, no buttons for playing videos and audio clips or viewing images, and a more subtle colour scheme inline with the Holo design guidelines. The background wallpaper can also now be changed directly from the chat window without the need to dig into settings, says a report on NDTV.

Also, the emoticons have been shifted right next to the reply button as opposed to the top right corner of the chat window. WhatsApp is sending its usersmessage encouraging them to update to the latest version.

''New version of WhatsApp is now available. Please visit the Android market or WhatsApp website to upgrade to the latest version. Your upgrade will bring improvements, larger group chats and new features such as Profile Photos!'' says the message from WhatsApp.

The latest version can be downloaded from WhatsApp website by clicking here, or from Google Play by clicking here. ''Please download the latest version of WhatsApp Messenger and enjoy our service free for 1 year! During, or after free trial period you can purchase service for $0.99/year,'' says the WhatsApp website. Also, if users have aready paid for the service, they don't have to pay again.
