The application process will begin from January 12, 2012 and will close on April 12.

ICANN, which is an international organization that manages Internet domain names and

numbers, has introduced this initiative with the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) and C-DAC in India.

In a reply, Pilot said, “it will help increase competition and choice for customers in the Internet addressing system.” This new initiative will help organizations to avail of their brand names instead of ‘.com’ as gTLDs.
