Netgear intros universal WiFi Range Extender

LAS VEGAS, USA: Networking equipment vendor Netgear will showcase about 18 new breed of home networking solutions at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), including a Netgear Universal WiFi Range Extender, WN3000RP.

Netgear claims that the WN3000RP will increases the coverage of an existing home network to include 'deadzones' and provides more network bandwidth for applications.

The WiFi Range Extender enables devices including iPads, iPods, laptops, WiFi-enabled smart phones, game consoles, WiFi-enabled Blu-ray players and TV set-top boxes to connect to home network.

The device is touted to be the first solution capable of delivering multiple jitter-free 1080p high-definition video streams throughout the home with no new wires.

The new Netgear 3DHD Wireless technology includes four transmitters and four receivers built into each 3DHD Wireless adapter for Multiple Input Multiple Output transmission (4x4 MIMO), increasing WiFi range and reliability.

The "2011 marks Netgear's 15th anniversary and while many things have changed over the past 15 years, Netgear's commitment to innovation has not waivered," said Patrick Lo, CEO, Netgear. "We've seen a major shift in how people use the Internet. Today, consumers lead an "always-on" lifestyle and are constantly connected to the Internet via their tablets, smartphones, PCs, and gaming consoles. And they're not just connecting to the Internet for information anymore. Today, it's all about entertainment."

Netgear will also showcase Netgear N600 Wireless DualBand Gigabit Router — Premium Edition (WNDR3800).

The premium edition router boasts new features such as Clear Channel Selector, ReadyShare Printer and Quick Start, Steady Stream HD.

Introduced with the WNDR3800 is the Netgear Genie, a free home network dashboard application that enables consumers to monitor, connect, and control home network. Netgear Genie can also diagnose and automatically fix network connectivity issues.

Netgear also announced Netgear N600 Wireless DualBand Gigabit ADSL Modem Router (DGND3700), a home gateway that provides a function-rich solution to consolidate multiple network devices in the home.

It provides connectivity to the Internet with a built-in ADSL modem or a Gigabit Ethernet port for high-speed cable or fiber service, giving consumers the flexibility to support multiple broadband technologies within a single gateway.

This new home gateway offers enhanced functionality, including a 4-port Gigabit switch, ReadyShare storage access with two USB ports, a DLNA Media Server, Live Parental Controls, Guest Networks, and a Broadband Usage Meter.

The Netgear N750 Wireless DualBand Gigabit Router (WNDR4000) delivers up to 450 Mbps speed.

Powerline AV Solutions

Netgear N300 Wireless Router with Powerline AV (WNXR2000) is a whole-home "hybrid" connectivity solution that delivers the convenience of wireless and the reliability of a wired powerline connection, all in one device.

It comes with 200 Mbps powerline integrated into the router's power supply.

The XAVB5004 delivers flawless HD video streaming and is capable of connecting up to four Internet-ready home theater devices, such as HDTVs, Blu-ray players, IPTVs, TV set-top boxes, media players or game consoles to the Internet.

The solution's four ports are conveniently colour coded for simple set-up and quality of service (QoS).

The Netgear Powerline AV 200 Nano Adapter Kit (XAVB2101) is the smallest 200Mbps powerline AV adapter currently available worldwide. The ultra-compact, space-saving XAVB2101 extends Internet access throughout the home via any power outlet and provides a high-speed wired connection that is ideal for HD multimedia.

Home Media Storage

ReadyNAS Ultra 2 (RNDU2000). TiVo users may use the ReadyNAS Ultra 2 to expand their DVR capacity. Orb transcoding support puts the right media formats on the right screens, streaming movies on handhelds in any connected location.

Skifta shifts movies and music onto any DLNA networked screen.

Digital Media Player

NeoTV HD Media Players (NTV550) enable users to play digital videos, photos, or music directly on their HDTVs whether the media is stored locally, on the home network, or the Internet.

The NTV550 supports HD 1080p, Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound, and offers an additional E-SATA port for faster transfer speeds, and advanced metadata tagging that lets users browse cover art.

New Mobile Broadband Solution

The new mobile Broadband router (MBR1000) with both 3G/4G and Ethernet WAN delivers performance that rivals wired broadband. It is ideal for remote locations and nomadic usage by providing an instant WiFi Internet hot spot.

New Gateway and Telephony Solutions

Netgear's newest offerings for wired service providers include an OSGi-enabled VDSL2 and GigE dual WAN gateway (VEVG3700) that can be used in DSL, FTTH or DOCSIS networks.

The new high-performance gateway features Gigabit Ethernet and WiFi Dual Band, as well as a CAT-iq DECT base station and wired VoIP lines (offering 6 x 6 IP-PBX functionality).

The VEVG3700 gateway is also a DLNA/UPnP server so it can access digital media content that is stored on an attached USB device or devices on the LAN.

Also announced is a Digital Home Hub (DHH1000), the VDH1000 and VDB1000 DECT handset and charging base. The DHH1000 has all the same great features as the VEVG3700, but includes ADSL-2+ WAN. The VDH1000 and VDB1000 is a cordless 1.8/1.9GHz DECT solution that has an LCD display and delivers high quality voice telephony, advanced calling features, long reach and co-exists with WiFi.

New Cable Gateway Solution

The new cable gateway (CG3202) is the first DOCSIS 3.0 Dual Band WiFi cable solution, delivering top performance for real time applications including video, audio, voice and online gaming. This full-featured gateway has been developed for the connected home or business with multiple computers and multiple applications. This product is also available in EuroDOCSIS 3.0 (CG3302).

The VEVG3700, DHH1000 and CG3202/CG3302 are the latest products in a family of OSGi-enabled gateways from NETGEAR that enable easy integration of applications such as home security, appliance control, health monitoring, energy management and media sharing services.

Expansion into IP Home Security

Today, Netgear is also introducing the first products in its interactive home security solution that enable service providers to offer an expanded portfolio of IP based home security services.

The new security solution can generate significant new revenue from service providers' existing customers. The new solution is powered by iControl software, which can be loaded to existing security controllers. Netgear's new IP home security products include:

The Android based Home Security Screen (HSS101), used to view surveillance video, control lighting and HVAC as well as see live traffic, weather and news.

An IP camera (HSC101) with night vision and motion detection for video surveillance. A wireless range extender (WN2000RPT) to bridge the WiFi signal between outside IP cameras and screens to the existing home network.
