Netflix sets social media abuzz with a new icon to go alongside its brand

Netflix has had a makeover, or so it seems. After the streaming media giant updated its social media profile picture on Monday with a minimal icon, with one bold, red, uppercase ‘N’, the Twitter was abuzz with the interpretation that the company is rehashing its logo.

Some were also confused about the company’s identity. However, the company clarified on Twitter, and also on CNBC later, that the picture is not actually a logo change at all. Netflix has instead introduced a new into its branding with an ‘N’ icon.

The current Netflix logo will remain, and the icon will start to be incorporated into mobile apps along with other product integrations in the near future.

Netflix updated its visual identity in 2014, when it switched from its DVD-era logo with a red background and old-school typeface, to a flatter, more minimal design.
