NEET 2020 Qualified Children of COVID Warriors are eligible for these 5 MBBS Seats; How to Apply

The Centre on November 19 announced its decision to reserve five MBBS seats under the central pool for children of Covid warriors. It introduced a new category, ‘Wards of Covid warriors’ for the academic year 2020-21. The 5 selected students will get admission based on their NEET 2020 scores in one of the following colleges; (i) Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi (for Girls only); (ii) MGMS, Wardha, Maharashtra; (iii) NSCB Medical College, Jabalpur, MP; (iv) JLN Medical College, Ajmer, Rajasthan or (v) Govt. Medical College, Haldwani, Uttarakhand.

Central Pool MBBS seats will be allocated for selection and nominations of the candidates from amongst the wards of “COVID Warriors”, who have their lost lives due to COVID-19; or died accidentally on account of COVID-19 related duty, Health Minister said.

Who are COVID Warriors?

Definition of COVID Warrior: As defined by the Ministry of Health & FW vide their OM dated 18.11.2020 and 23.11.2020, which is quoted below:

“Covid Warriors means Public healthcare providers including community health workers, who may have to be in direct contact and care of COVID-19 patients and who may be at risk of being impacted by this. Private hospital staff and retired/volunteer/local urban bodies/contractual/daily wage/ad-hoc/outsourced staff requisitioned by States/Central hospitals/autonomous hospitals of Central/States/UTs, AIIMS and INIs/Hospitals of Central Ministries drafted for COVID-19 related responsibilities are also included.”

How to apply?

In a statement from December 15, the ministry said, “The selection of candidates will be made by the Medical Council Committee (MCC) through online application based on rank obtained in the NEET 2020 conducted by National Testing Agency.”

Fill the application in the format appended below. Attach all the supporting documents, duly certified by respective Directorate of Medical Education (DME)/ Directorate Health Services (DHS). Submit it to respective DME/DHS who will then forward it to MCC for allotment as per NEET 2020 Merit.

Only NEET Qualified and eligible children of COVID Warriors to be considered. Nominations or applications to be routed through respective Director of Medical Education/ Director of Health Services of concerned State/UT after scrutiny about their eligibility.
