NEW DELHI, INDIA: The Full Mobile Number Portability (FMNP) will be implemented next month, union minister of Communication & IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad tweeted this today.
Prasad said this while he was announcing the achievements of his ministry during Narendra Modi government's first year in office.
So what is FMNP and how does it help?
Nationwide MNP (Mobile Number Portability) is one of the much awaited service in India. The existing MNP service allows users to change between operators within the home circles only.
But a full MNP would enable the users to relocate to any part of India and change operators without having to change the number.
This will enable linking the mobile to the JAM (Jan Dhan Yojana-Aadhar-Mobile) and allow transfer of benefits in a leakage-proof and cashless manner.
In another important announcement, Prasad informed that the state-owned telecom operator, BSNL will provide nationwide free roaming service starting June 15.
BSNL and MTNL have launched unlimited free local calls also from landlines to any landline/mobile during night hours effective from this month.
