''Security as a concept is very old but has evolved with time. Today it is becoming a very crucial issue. Primarily because of the evolution of technology it is making many things possible but on the downside it makes security more complex,'' NASSCOM's chairman and TCS'CEO N Chandrasekaran said in his opening address.

According to Chandrasekaran, security is going to have a huge impact as information and technology is evolving every day. ''Lots of crimes happen not because there's no security or technology in place but it's due to lack of awareness of processes and systems among people and how some people are exploiting the loopholes,'' Chandrasekaran said.

''So it becomes very critical on one hand to have security, technology, processes and systems across industries and on the other hand to educate and create awareness among all people including businesses, enterprises, cross border governments and across nations globally,'' Chandrasekaran stressed.

Moreover, Chandrasekaran praised the joint efforts of NASSCOM and DSCI in focusing on information security concerns. ''In India, I am extremely glad that NASSCOM took efforts to setup DSCI as a separated institute for security with a charter to create awareness through leadership by bringing competent people from various industries with goals and build capability to address the issues of security.''

DSCI's CEO Dr. Kamlesh Bajaj said that data security, privacy and preventions remain the key elements for any technology platform. ''We have a focus approach on strengthening the cyber security. This year we came out with a report - Securing Our Cyber Frontiers in April and presented it to the Home Ministry.''

''We even had high level discussions including the National Security Advisor (NSA), which created a joint Working Group under the Chairpersonship of Deputy NSA. It will promote a public private partnership between government and industry in strengthening cyber security in India,'' Dr. Bajaj concluded.
