NEW DELHI, INDIA: Nasscom has warned that any move by Malaysia to freeze intake of Indian workers would not only impact the operations of IT companies there, but also hit investment flow from companies which are looking at Malaysia as a potential outsourcing destination.

Nasscom’s comment comes in the wake of media reports from Kuala Lumpur that suggest that Malaysia has suspended the recruitment of workers from India. However, it is not yet clear whether professionals were banned.

Nasscom is concerned about this development as it would have serious impact on the operations of all IT companies in Malaysia. Globally, the IT industry thrives on free trade,” a statement by the software association said. “Such developments send very strong negative signals to the investing countries. We are hopeful that this issue will be resolved between both Governments at the earliest, so that the trade and economic relationship between the two countries can continue to grow,” Nasscom pointed out.
