The organization said that India should have an aggregate target of at least 15 per cent renewable energy in the national grid by 2020. It also called upon states to oblige in accordance with the national roadmap.

NASSCOM chief Som Mittal said that energy consumption levels in developing nations are high. “ICT has an enormous role to play. As we move forward, the challenge is how to leverage ICT-driven reform," he said.

As green is no more a buzzword or just a CSR initiative, but has entered, albeit recently, into the parlance of corporate sector, Mittal said that their member companies have embarked upon green journey.

“As ICT industry continues to evolve, there is a need to apply radical changes in processes in order to use energy efficiently and scale up production to meet soaring demands,” said Mittal.

Going smart, he said, isn’t just a hype but it’s all about transformation. Mittal feels that ICT is an enabler and the country should work together to accomplish desired goals.
