MTNL to launch mobile value-added services in 2012

NEW DELHI, INDIA: The country’s first 3G services operator, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam

Limited (MTNL) is banking on mobile value-added services (MVAS). It’s all set to introduce new value-added services in Delhi circle early next year.

With focus on 3G, the government-driven company is expected to launch location-based services, multimedia and ring-back tones. The new services are in testing phase now and trial will be conducted soon, informed the MTNL.

Speaking to CIOL, MTNL executive director AK Bhargava said that they are concentrating on new value-added services which they expect, would be introduced in the first quarter of 2012.

“MTNL is looking at location-based services, in addition to ring-back tones and other multimedia services,” Bhargava said. With an effort to deliver highly personalized experience to subscribers, the company is eyeing localized information and emergency services.

"We’ll be announcing these services soon, probably within the first quarter of the coming year," informed Bhargava. Search engine, video surveillance and health-related services are on the cards too.

Recently, MTNL unveiled the Website builder and movie talkies services. It had also introduced WAP site in partnership with digital content provider, Shemaroo Entertainment.
