MS announces launch plans for SQL 2005 in India

NEWDELHI: Microsoft Corporation India Pvt Ltd has announced that it would launch the next version of its database and analysis offering, SQL Server 2005 in the second half of this year. According to the company, the SQL Server 2005 product family has been redesigned to better meet the needs of each customer segment, and will include four new editions; SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition, SQL Server 2005 Work Group Edition, and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.





Besides delivering high availability and robust scalability along with advanced Business Intelligence tools aimed at the enterprise audience, the Standard and Workgroup Editions will provide a rich database analysis solution created specifically for the emerging SMB categories.





Commenting on the product line, Microsoft India application servers and enterprise marketing senior marketing manager Tarun Malik said; "With the SQL 2005 product line, we have increased the functionality offered by the Enterprise and Standard offerings, and with the Workgroup and Express Editions we are extending the platform to additional customer segments."





"Since SQL Server is part of Windows Server System, customers will receive the added benefits of reduced TCO and faster development time through the increased manageability and integration that result from the common engineering strategy implemented across Windows Server System products," he added.





With SQL Server 2005, customers will be able to take advantage of Microsoft's recently announced licensing for multicore processors, which allows customers to license SQL Server 2005 on a per-processor basis. SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition is available for an estimated retail price (ERP) of $24,999 per processor or $13,499 per server (25 CALs). SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition is available for an ERP of $5,999 per processor or $2,799 per server (10 CALs). SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Editions is available for an ERP of $3,899 per processor or $739 per server (five CALs). SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is available for free via Web download.
